Typically, Traditional Art identifies works of art that are not executed by highly-trained professionals but instead are produced by working local artists -- a popular profession in the 18th and 19th centuries. Folk Art, considered to be under the umbrella of Traditional Art, turns its back on "fine art" and portrays simple, rustic subjects and scenes: weather vanes, carousel horses, doorstops and doorknobs, farm animals -- whatever is familiar to the particular culture. Traditional Art has been recognized as a valuable link between generations, cultures, and customs, and today is very popular in traditional design and decorating.
