The word "western" conjures up images of cowboys, gunfights, horses, and John Wayne. During the early 20th century, American westerns typically centered on the theme of good guy (white hat) versus bad guy (black hat), and much of the action centered on fistfights in the town saloon, gunfights at the corral, or galloping pursuits across the open plains. The western has also put its mark on the world of art, inspiring paintings, sculptures, and photography of the American west's breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable people. Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell are two well-known painters who captured the beauty and drama of the "Wild West." Their works -- along with many others -- are available in framed western posters and prints here at Barewalls.
