The paintings of Edward Hopper (1882-1967) focused on the common elements of everyday life and seascapes and landscapes. The artist was very conservative, quiet and serious, and he meticulously planned out the shapes, proportions, lighting and colors of a painting before he ever picked up a brush.
His best-known paintings are Nighthawks and Early Sunday Morning, and they can be found in fine art prints and posters. At the death of his wife, more than 300,000 of his works were bequeathed to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
