Also known as wee folk, good folk, and fair folk, fairies are mythological creatures of a supernatural bent. They are most often portrayed in human form and they always possess magical powers -- some are good, some are not so good, particularly gnomes and goblins. Not every fairy has wings. In fact, in ancient folklore it was believed that fairies flew by magic and not by the power of wings.
There are two very famous fairies, at least in the US. Tinkerbell -- also known as "Tink" -- is Peter Pan's sidekick. She has wings and wields a wand to work her magic on friend and foe alike. The other famous fairy has been around for generations and she is known as the Tooth Fairy, who visits children while they are sleeping and leaves money under their pillows in exchange for no-longer-needed baby teeth.
