"Rolling Stone" magazine was launched in 1967 in San Francisco by editor and publisher Jann Wenner and music critic Ralph Gleason. For the last several decades the bi-weekly publication has greatly impacted pop culture, featuring controversial magazine covers and in-depth articles about music, politics, and cultural issues.
John Lennon appeared on the very first cover, and subsequent early cover photos include The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Eric Clapton.
Some of the magazine's covers have become widely collectible and are available in framed collector's editions. On May 7, 2006, Rolling Stone published its 1000th issue.
