Perhaps the most recognized landmark in the world, the Eiffel Tower, got its name from its designer, Gustav Eiffel. The tower was built for the World's Fair Paris Exhibition in 1889 and at that time it was the world's tallest building. Here are some more interesting facts about this incredible structure: As of 2002, 200,000,000 people had visited the tower. In 1925 a con artist "sold" the tower for scrap metal -- twice. People have bungee-jumped and parachuted from the tower and a pilot has flown a small plane through the tower's arches. It is 324 feet high and the metal structure weighs 7300 tons.
